Aimless In Space

My own suspicion is that the Universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose.

Coloured SEM of Escherichia coli bacteria

B230/0143 Rights Managed

Credit: NIBSC/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY

Caption: E. coli bacteria. Coloured scanning electron micrograph of the rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacteria, Escherichia coli, known as E. coli. These bacteria are normal inhabitants of the human intestine (they also occur in the intestine of animals) and are usually harmless. Under certain conditions, however, E. coli might increase in number and cause infection. Serotypes of E. coli are responsible for gastro-enteritis in children, particularly in tropical countries. In adults it causes “traveller’s diarrhoea” and 80% of all urinary tract infections. It is also the organism most used in genetic engineering studies. Magnification: x2400 at 6x7cm size. [x]

buttonmeupbuttons:

SCIENCE!!! Here are some buttons for all you science lovers. I was a bio major in college and I’m still a big science geek. ;) I tried to get creative with the hearts, it was difficult but fun.

The biology button has a strand of DNA for the “I” a diagram of blood flow in the heart, and paramecium spelling out “biology”.

The chemistry one is pretty self explanatory, I used the chemical symbols to spell “love” (well, luv anyway).

The formula under the graph on the math button actually will make that heart shape on graph. I got the formula from here: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/HeartCurve.html

The physics button has the equation equation for the gravitational force between two objects (attraction, get it?)

The biochemistry button has an oxytocin molecule, the “love hormone”.

For the astronomy one I drew the heart nebula, which is a real nebula located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. Space stuff is really hard to draw. D:

Send me a note if you’d like to buy one. :)

Human Body Tissue Types: (from left to right)

Skeletal Muscle - performs voluntary movements of the limbs, is arranged into bundles of fibres that connect to bones via tendons.

Adipose Tissue - a type of connective tissue that acts as an energy store and helps to cushion, protect and insulate the body.

Smooth Muscle - found in sheets on the walls of blood vessels, stomach, intestines and bladder. vital for maintaining blood pressure and for pushing food through the digestive system.

Spongy Bone - found in the centre of bones , the lattice-like spaces in spongy bone are filled with bone marrow or conective tissues.

Cartilage - found in the joints between bones and in the ear and nose. It is tough but flexible due to the high water content.

Dense Connective Tissue - occurs in the base layer of skin and forms structures such as ligaments and tendons.

Epithelial Tissue - forms a covering/lining for internal and external body surfaces. some epithelial tissues can secrete digestive enzymes while others can absorb substances such as food or water.

Nerve Tissue - forms the brain,. spinal cord, and the nerves that control movement, transmit sensation and regulate body function. Made up mainly of networks of nerve cells
